If you have a fairly normal period that lasts about 28 to 30 days, it is not too difficult to work out when your most fertile time of the month occurs. First, start making a note of the start and end dates of your period. This is the information that you need to work out your fertile time. From the date your next period is due count back 14 days. This gives you your fertile period. Bear in mind that ovulation only takes twenty four hours so you have a very limited window of opportunity! You chart your temperature every day looking for a slight rise in temperature which indicates ovulation. You should chart your temperature for a few months to work out your ovulation pattern. For a more accurate way of working out your fertile period, you could use an Ovulation Test Kit. There are many available, look for Clearblue or First Response. Ovulation Kits work by detecting a surge in Luteinizing Hormone which means that an ovum has been released into the fallopian tube and conception could take place.
